I tell ya, folks, heed my warning and steer clear of this so-called Hummingbird Pro Wordpress plugin by WPMU DEV. Recently, I thought I would give it a whirl on my woocommerce website. Well, let's just say it's been a right royal nightmare since.
I was meticulous about the setup, you know, crossing all the T’s and dotting all the I’s. But despite my best efforts, it wreaked havoc on my website. Not only did it cause some strange bugs on our product page, but it also messed up the checkout page. And to top it all off, it led to a bunch of failed orders. We tried to disable all the settings, but it made no difference – even the most basic functionality continued to play up.
Now, I'm not one to fly off the handle lightly, but this is no small matter. I activated this plugin with the hope of speeding up our site and boosting our conversion rate. Instead, it all just went pear-shaped. We lost over 20 orders and wasted £400 on google ads. All because this blighter of a plugin crashed our checkout page.
You might think, "Well, you should've noticed the bug sooner," and perhaps you're right. But I'd argue that it's the responsibility of the developers to ensure that their product works harmoniously with one of the most commonly used Wordpress plugins, Woocommerce. Instead, they've dealt a proper blow to small businesses like ours.
And if this experience wasn't enough, I also tried their Smush Pro plugin. Another disaster. The image compression and conversion to webp were terrible, turning our quality images into unappealing pixelated messes.
I'm telling you, that WPMU Pro subscription is as good as cancelled. Can't express enough how much I caution others against WPMU DEV and their shoddy plugins. If you've had a similar experience, do us all a favour and share it below. Let's warn others before they waste their hard-earned cash and precious time.
