My friend does her makeup like a clown.

Hey y'all, I need some advice. My friend always puts on her makeup all wrong and ends up looking like a clown. I want to tell her, but I don't want to upset her. Plus, she's black and I don't want to come across as racist. You know how black people get when you criticize their appearance. :/

Um, excuse me? That's a pretty racist thing to say. Black people are just like anyone else and we all want to look good. If you have something constructive to say, then say it. But don't use someone's race as an excuse not to be honest.

I agree with Eula. Honesty is the best policy, but you can be tactful about it. Maybe start by saying something positive about her makeup and then offer a suggestion on how she can improve it.

Hold up, I wasn't trying to be racist. I just don't want to offend my friend. But I see now that using her race as an excuse is wrong. I'll try to be more tactful in how I approach the situation.

That's a good attitude to have. We all make mistakes, but it's important to learn from them and do better in the future.

 And remember, makeup is subjective. What one person likes, another may not. So be gentle in your criticism and offer suggestions, not insults.

Oh my gosh! If she can't handle constructive criticism, then maybe she's not really a friend. Plus, why does race even have to come into the equation? I mean, we all have our own struggles with makeup and it's not like you're attacking her based on her skin color. People really need to stop being so touchy about everything and just grow a pair, haha!
